Today the 7th and final episode of Gamblers Season 2 is live. Thank you to those of you who have been listening along this season, and especially to those of you who have left a rating or review, subscribed or followed the show, and have shared it on your social media feeds. I see you and I appreciate it.
In case you haven’t had a chance to listen yet, I wanted to give you a glimpse into what all kinds of trouble I got into in the past year reporting and writing this show.
For episode 1 I traveled to Orlando, Florida for No Guts No Glory, a giant gathering of drag racers and gamblers, and watched very ugly-looking cars go extremely fast while people bet thousands of dollars on the results.
For episode 2 and 3 I went to Las Vegas for a week to hang out with professional sports bettor Rufus Peabody while he and his team attempted to make over $2 million in bets on the 2021 Super Bowl. And I ended up doing more than just watching.
For episode 4 I stayed in Las Vegas to hit up the golf course with Richie Sklar, one of the most notorious golf hustlers (and horse racing fixer) that ever lived. I rode along while he played a bunch of millionaires for $2,000 a hole, and hung out in the Bellagio while he played Chinese poker with Doyle Brunson.
For episode 5 I went to Chicago to meet Tom Murphy, a brilliant and beloved chess hustler, and lost a bit of money to him in the process.
For episode 6 I went to Austin, Texas to hang out with Andrew Neeme, the godfather of poker youtube vloggers, at the card club he co-owns with a number of other poker players, The Lodge, and stayed up all night playing pot limit omaha.
For episode 7 I went to Monaco to the Backgammon World Championships and won hundreds of Euros betting on the event with the tournament bookmaker, and blew it all playing craps and roulette in the Casino de Monte Carlo.
I hope you’ll give the show a spin, and if you like it, share it with people you know. I spent most of the last year working on it, so it’d be cool if people actually heard it! I know there are a lot of podcasts, and most of us are already overwhelmed with things to listen to. But if you subscribe to this newsletter, then you probably like me and/or my writing, so please consider putting this show in your queue. And a nice review couldn’t hurt, either. It’d be nice to get to do this again.
Thanks,
David
P.S.
Last time I wrote you I included a link to purchase signed copies of The Vapors, and I heard from some of you that it wasn’t working. I think I fixed it, so if you wanted to order a copy and couldn’t, try again by clicking this link. And let me know if there’s any issues.
