I’m back from my sojourn in the wilderness, and I made it back in one piece. It was nice to be unplugged for a while, and it seems like I picked a good week to not be on the internet, too. I appreciate the patience while I took a couple of weeks off from updating the podcast and substack. But break’s over. Back on my grind.
The podcast will return on Monday morning with a brand new episode. Gambling with an Edge host and professional gambler Richard Munchkin and I chop it up about Ken Uston’s The Big Player. It was a fun conversation with someone who is not only a pleasure to talk to but also a walking encyclopedia of gambling history. And Ken Uston provided us with plenty of good gossip - er - material. I think you’ll enjoy it.
The first round of the book club wrapped up before I left with a live zoom discussion of Laughing in the Hills by Bill Barich. Paid subscribers who didn’t read the book yet can access the readers guides I posted here on substack anytime. The book was honestly so good and well worth your time. You can pick up a copy at this link or at the Bookshop link on my substack. A new poll for the next book will go out to paid subscribers next week.
Karl Johnson shared with me this writeup of the podcast and our episode about The Magician and the Cardsharp in Genii Magazine.
To celebrate their tenth anniversary, Apple News chose their top 100 sports stories of the last decade, and my story Sportsbook Nation made the Top Ten!
I went on the Low Rollers podcast to discuss the show and my own gambling proclivities.
Don’t forget you can catch me on At the Races with Steve Byk every Thursday morning (Sirius 162 or at this link) giving my NFL picks for the week and talking about whatever else is on my mind (frequently this substack and podcast, natch).
Keep an eye out Monday morning for the new episode of the podcast, tell your friends, and don’t forget to subscribe!
Congrats on making the Top 10!
